Wildlife Services' deadly force opens Pandora's box of environmental problems

Wildlife Services is a federal agency  of the USDA that operates in secrecy, using brutal traps, poison and aerial gunning to kill thousands of animals, with accidental victims that include federally protected species, family pets and injured people.

On terrain owned by the American public, Wildlife Services is waging a war against predators  deemed a threat to agriculture, the public, and – more recently – the environment.

Since 2000, its employees have killed nearly a million coyotes, mostly in the West. They have destroyed millions of birds, from nonnative starlings to migratory shorebirds, along with a colorful menagerie of more than 300 other species, including black bears, beavers, porcupines, river otters, mountain lions and wolves.

Why is Wildlife Services of the USDA killing all these animals?

They meticulously keep track of the complaints they get about wildlife. They seriously recorded 7 occurrences of damage to clothing or threats of damage to clothing. They jumped right on threats to 487 golf courses and 7 privately stocked fishing pools. There were 4,893 instances when the federal government got involved in wildlife damage to landscaping.

Most, they say, are for agriculture, the department’s raison d’etre.  Most threats were to livestock, but they did record 14 threats to emu, 1 to alpaca, 16 to pigeons. Somebody raising what sounds like canned hunt game animals complained to the federal government 103 times about wild animals.

They claim 30,000 threats to human safety (plus another 4,000 to airports and other transportation) and 29 to human health.

"Its wolves or bison–on ranchland. One arm of the government protects wildlife and another slaughters it for interfering with livestock. Weird situation"

Wedge Pack has been aerial gunned down in Washington state............thanks to cattle barons.

'Cattle barons? Hardly. Fkn' welfare ranchers.  Without the deeply subsidized federal grazing on our public lands these throwbacks to the 1900′s would starve. They intentionally mismanage their animals so the government killers do their bidding.  One of the best ways to cripple them is to cripple their industry.  Give up all beef products and get your family and friends to do the same.  You’ll be helping save wolves, the environment, and your own health at the same time.'

The re-introduced river otters are next, because of whiners in this state.

Otter comeback complete, maybe too complete for some

INDIANAPOLIS – The reintroduction of river otters to Indiana has been so successful that state wildlife officials say the critters’ appetites are causing problems in some ponds.....

IDNR is not telling the truth on deer population numbers. Hunters are seeing less and less deer every year since 2007. These are not biologists, NRC members or DNR employees etc. These are guys that actually get out  live  hunting. Most of them year round.

Deer population is way down in many areas for a variety of reasons (ehd, predation, liberal seasons, liberal doe permits ). The words "management", and "restraint" mean nothing to those that take, and take thanks to DNR liberal seasons/weapons, and doe permit....... with 'brown, it is down'  attitude.

The deer are not in the fields like they have been in previous years... farmers may
like that, and the insurance companies, politicians like it too of course, but the real hunters are concerned.

No license to kill.

One of  the eleven most offbeat bills introduced in the Indiana general Assembly this year.

SENATE BILL No. 104  Sponsor: Brent Steele, R-Bedford.

(5) The manager of a public use airport (as defined by 49 U.S.C. 47102(22)), or
the manager's designee, may chase or take at any time, without a license, a wild
animal that is located on the airport's property, if the wild animal is located
on the airport's property that contains the runway or apron.

What ever happened to just firing blanks, or using some other loud noise, besides  aircraft itself, to scare critters away? I just do not understand this bloodlust, desire to kill wildlife that is just passing through.
