Note about this group

There is a lot going on with Indiana Local Food.  Below are some links to get you started.   These guys have really good lists for Indiana.  We don't want to duplicate that list, but if you know of some good local resource sites then please comment below.

http://www.goinglocal-info.com/  - This is a great statewide resource for Indiana.  The site has a great list of where to find local food statewide. Check out her links, everything thing else you can find on local food in indiana is listed on her site!

http://www.localharvest.org/  This is a great  national site where farms, markets, etc can list themselves. It offers some pretty good resources.

http://www.indyfoodfarmfamily.org/ - this is a great site for the Indianapolis Area.  There are a lot of links there and there is a GREAT CLICKABLE MAP OF THE INDIANAPOLIS AREA.

Current information on the Indiana Local Food's are found below.

PLEASE check the feed below for the latest news from all over Indiana.

Below you will find a feed that consists of all of the latest articles from the above sources +http://www.localfoodbloomington.blogspot.com/

We are Fort Wayne and NE Indiana's largest farm market featuring 50+ growers which include certified organic produce, locally grown produce, beef, poultry, eggs, breads, flowers and other Indiana produced farms products. The market also features art and antiques along with music and hot food vendors every week. Now accepting EBT/SNAP, FMNP and WIC vouchers. This is the fourth year, and going strong.

Hi Daniel and other new members--
A statewide map of locally sourced food sounds great, I wonder who might be interested? Might be a good graduate project for a geography grad student.
If you are interested in already existing sites that have info (and Maps!) on local food/farmers markets you might check out the following:

http://www.localharvest.org/ Is a national site where farms, markets, etc can list themselves. So no it is not complete and it is not objective but it is a start. They do have interactive maps, but probably not what you thinking

http://www.goinglocal-info.com/ Is more local site for Indiana run by Victoria Wesseler. She has taken it upon herself to compile information about where to find local food statewide. Check out her links, everything thing else you can find on local food in indiana is listed on her site!

It would be nice to have a compilation of this sort of info and maybe georeference it into a "Mapquest-y" format

The so-called European Market in Chesterton, IN has local produce as well as prepared food and crafts from local vendors. I bought some delicious organic spinach from an older couple who sell stuff they grow in their own small garden and bring to market each Saturday, probably for the social event as much as anything. And it is quite an event, which I highly recommend. We never miss it when we're in the area.

If anyone lives in or happens by the Muncie area, please check out the Downtown Farm Stand. It is a little grocery store that focuses on local and organic food. They are expanding little by little and hope to open up a fresh kitchen by this summer. Enjoy!
