As the seasons change....

Well, my first blog fizzled out with the cool days of autumn but had not been forgotten. While I would have loved giving daily updates or even weekly updates it just wasn't as exciting when I sat down to write. Well, we can start with an update I suppose......A month ago I actually used the remnants of my first compost. I planted 10 Coral Snap Hybrid trees and used the compost to provide some additional nutrients as well as assist with moisture control. I am pleased to report that the growth…See More

compost #1

So, Sunday will be the 1st day of week number two on my first compost. It is amazing to watch it change from day to day. The compost bin I built holds quite a bit and day one I filled it to the brim. As the days have past, I have watched it seemingly shrink. When I mix it up whether it is to add some kitchen scraps to the middle or just to give it some air, it seems to be smaller and smaller. It is almost as if it is decomposing faster than I would have ever imagined!I am hoping to get some…See More

About Me:
I am young and passionate once involved. Each day I learn more and more and each day I become more and more excited. Currently working on my first compost and I can't seem to get enough. Seems like everyday I want to do something to it wether it is turn it or research new items to include and how it will affect the compost. I am continually looking for ways to expand my compost as well as looking for different uses or different places to spread it! I am hoping to get to the point where I can teach othersto compost. As I said, I am constantly learning so any help would be greatly appreciated!

Shop green!

Hi Renee,

I’m interested in buying with less packaging and products made from recycled materials. What can you suggest?

Thanks!

Donna

Hi Donna,

I suggest that more people think like you!

Strangely, food is the first thing that comes to mind when I think of less packaging. My favorite way to [...]

I’m dreaming of a green Christmas

No matter how snowy it is where you live, you can have a green Christmas — even though the season is rife with over-consumption. Each year in the U.S., approximately $75 billion is spent on Christmas gifts, 1.9 billion cards are sent and 20.8 million trees are cut. This year, [...]
