I like the recycled tires for the raised beds, when we had our solar thermal system installed the contractor we used left a serious mess and since we are living in a river valley there is nothing but sand. instead of trucking in a bunch of black dirt we have opted to put in raised beds for herbs and vegetables next year. I am wondering about Mulch. Do you know what is the best deciduous tree leaves for mulching into a raised bed? I like the community garden idea, and am experimenting with all kinds of techniques for getting large harvests. The squash did pretty good this year but it has been so cold in Wisconsin this summer that we didn't exactly get a bumper crop.
