Coconuts

Malden Mills makers of Polartec fabric that most of us know as polar fleece has been using recycled bottles for years to produce it. They now have a fabric, PowerDry, that uses coconuts as an antimicrobial. This is great base layer comfort.

Recycling Wronged

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management wants to use the economy as a pretext for reneging on recycling grants it promised to several communities and environmental agencies. Hard economic times certainly force people to set priorities, but this decision suggests that protecting the environment is not among Gov. Mitch Daniels’ priorities.

Ice, Wind Storms and Power Outages. Why is it Always the Trees Fault?

Up here in Fort- Waste- a- Lot we are still reel'in and deal'in with the aftermath of the ice storm of the century, or the storm of my lifetime so far. The ice here from the storm was unprecendented. The crews from AEP/IMP had gathered in force to fight the elements of ice, cold and wind to get the power back on. Conservationist Rieth Leaves " Invaluable Legacy"

Mary Jane George Rieth, 92, a longtime Indiana conservationist and philanthropist, died Wednesday at her home in Goshen.



The Goshen College announcement said she and her husband, Lee, co-founded the Merry Lea Environmental Learning Center near Wolf Lake in 1964.



The privately owned environmental education site in Noble County includes forest, prairie and wetland ecosystems.
