A Greener Indiana

Everybody can do something to make a greener Indiana

The following are policies and/or laws I will push for:

1. CREATION OF A STATE REQUIREMENT TO GREATLY REDUCE AUTOMOBILE USE IN ALL METROPOLITAN AREAS.

2. ENCOURAGE THE USE OF STATE TRANSPORTATION FUNDS TO CREATE AUTO FREE ZONES, AUTO FREE RUSH HOURS, AUTO FREE DAYS, BUS ONLY LANES ON STREETS AND FREEWAYS.

3. ENSURE VIABLE, SAFE, EVIRONMENTALLY SAFE TRANSPORTATION TO RURAL AREAS AND TO THE DISABLED POPULATION.

4. CONVENE A TRANSPORTATION JUSTICE COMMISSION TO EXAMINE HOW TRANSPORTATION PLANNING BY METROPOLITAN PLANNING ORGANIZATIONS ARE IMPACTING LOW INCOME AND MINORITY POPULATIONS.

5. REDUCE FUNDING FOR HIGHWAYS AND FOCUS STATE FUNDS ON PUBLIC TRANSIT.

6. ENACT A PROVISION ANALOGUS TO TITLE VI, THAT WOULD ALLOW PRIVATE ACTORS, LIKE COMMUNITY GROUPS TO FILE COMPLAINTS OF DISCRIMINATION AGAINST STATE FUNDED PROJECTS THAT HAVE A DISPARATE IMPACT ON LOW INCOME AND MINORITY POPULATIONS.

7. LEGISLATE THAT ALL STATE FUNDED CONSTRUCTION PROJECTS MUST HAVE PROJECT LABOR AGREEMENTS THAT MANDATE THAT 20% OF ALL JOBS BE FILLED BY APPRENCTICES AND LABORERS THAT ARE PEOPLE OF COLOR.
