And so it begins at Wayne National Forest in southeastern Ohio........Drilling forces restrictions on recreation at national forest, park in Ohio
Published: Sun, May 12, 2013 @ 12:51 p.m
Recreational activities are being restricted at Wayne National Forest as oil and gas drilling proceeds and coal mining is explored at the southeastern Ohio national park.
This report should set off alarms for any American, regardless of where they sit on the ideological spectrum, and regardless of how they feel about fracking or oil and gas in general. Our national forests.........treasured, special places that belong to all of us, that shouldn't be sold out or despoiled for private interest

Teddy Roosevelt must be rolling over in his grave. Elkhorn Ranch, where the great Republican conservationist sat on his porch overlooking the Little Missouri River and conceived his then-progressive theories of conservation, is at risk of being despoiled by fracking

Questions Linger in Ohio Fracking Waste Spill
February 11, 2013
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The unlawful disposal of thousands of gallons of fracking waste in Ohio is drawing the ire of residents and environmental groups. The Ohio EPA is investigating the intentional dumping of an estimated 20,000 gallons of crude oil and brine into a storm drain in Youngstown by Hard Rock Excavating. The incident occurred on Jan. 31, but was not reported for five days. Julian Boggs, state policy advocate with Environment Ohio, said it was a company whistleblower, not state regulators, who uncovered the violation. Fracking opponents criticized state regulators for not disclosing details about the quantity of waste or the chemicals involved in the spill.
Have safely been fracking in Indiana for 60 years....I don't think so knowing the industry has kept the public from viewing cases sealed when energy companies settled lawsuits with landowners. If it's so safe, let the public review all the cases.
BEDFORD — A bill authored by Rep. Eric Koch, R-Bedford, and signed into law by Gov. Mitch Daniels puts rules on a drilling procedure known as fracking.
Hydraulic fracturing uses water, sand and chemical additives under pressure to release oil and gas from shale. The technique has sparked environmental concerns and controversy in some areas, where people say that it has polluted groundwater supplies.
“It is the additives that have caused concern in some states,” Koch said. “We have been safely fracking in Indiana for 60 years.”
Koch said fracking, horizontal drilling and shale gas discoveries “have been game-changes for American energy independence, and can make us a net energy exporter in just a few years.
And so it begins.

Action against 1,230-mile Appalachia-to-Texas (ATEX) Express Pipeline bully tactics, and Ohio farmer David Hyde, as well as Indiana farmers, property owners. Hyde said the company began surveying his land without notifying him or asking permission, and contentious negotiations ensued. Ultimately Hyde said the company sought restraining orders against him and his mother and they ended up before a judge. Eminent domain laws were put in place for public utilities, but now we have these private for-profit companies coming in here using these laws to their advantage.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection has been withholding information about water contamination related to natural gas drilling in the Marcellus and Utica Shale formations, according to the sworn testimony of a DEP employee.
DEP’s Oil and Gas Division has procedures in place that purposely remove from lab reports water contaminants for certain heavy metals.
DEP lab conducting the water testing would assign a special code to the lab tests of fracking victims, specifically screening out results for toxins that are associated with drilling in the Marcellus Shale.
Newspapers Get Support From Doctors, Scientists and Advocates in Fr...
In a court case over gas industry secrecy, doctors, scientists, researchers and advocates are lending support to newspapers fighting for access to information that could shed light on the health impacts of gas development, including the controversial process known as hydraulic fracturing or fracking.

Dear Editor, Mayor Ballard, Board of Public Works, and readers,
On Tuesday, I made brief remarks regarding the pending recycling proposal by Covanta for the City of Indianapolis. My remarks were brief because, after a [...]
Hi Renee, I just emptied a small 16.4 oz propane tank that you use with your camp stove. Can those be recycled? I’m finding very conflicting information online. Thanks!
You may be finding conflicting information because propane tanks are made from a very recyclable material (steel), but they can be [...]
Please update me about lids. I know that water bottles can be recycled with lids on. What about other plastics that have a lid of a different color? Is there anything I should know about jars that have a metal lid? I [...]
